IN MEMORY OF DAVE “BOOKIE” BOOKMAN: MAY 30, 1960 – MAY 21, 2019
MusiCounts and Indie88 think children having access to music programs is essential. If you’re a teacher facing challenges that prevent instruments from being put in your kids’ hands, then we want to help. In the spirit of our friend Bookie, let’s give Canadian music a future and make music count!
Indie 88 is proud to support the MusiCounts Band Aid Program, putting musical instruments into the hands of kids who need them most.
Teachers, you can apply to receive up to $15,000 in MusiCounts instruments for your school’s music program! Apply by November 14, 2019, or donate to MusiCounts in Bookie's honour by filling out the donation form below.
INDIE88's DAY TO MAKE MUSIC COUNT IN HONOUR OF DAVE "BOOKIE" BOOKMAN
On May 29th, Indie88 Toronto created an initiative to honour the memory of long-time radio personality Dave “Bookie” Bookman. Dave was as passionate a music fan and advocate as they come, always wanting to share the latest – with a soft-spot for the underdog.
From 6am to 6pm on May 29th, Indie88 aired an all-day broadcast “A Day to Make Music Count”, seeking donations in Bookie’s memory to MusiCounts. The broadcast was anchored by the Josie Dye show, with support from Indie88 hosts Brent Albrecht and Sarah Burke.
Indie88 matched the first $10,000 worth of listener donations. The initial goal of $10,000 listener donations was achieved by 9:30am and matched to make $20,000. The goal was then upped to raise $40,000 before 6pm. However, at 4pm, we upped it one last time to $50,000. We are now sitting at nearly $75,000. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far.
