In Memory of Dave “Bookie” Bookman

DAVE “BOOKIE” BOOKMAN: MAY 30, 1960 – MAY 21, 2019

Radio personality Dave “Bookie” Bookman was a champion of Canada’s indie music scene known for his quick-witted interviews and encyclopedic knowledge of the industry. Bookie was a beloved on-air host at Indie 88, and in 2018 won the Canadian Independent Music Association’s Unsung Hero Award. He helped kickstart the careers of artists such as Billy Talent, and was known as one of Canada’s top interviewers. He will be greatly missed by friends and colleagues.

On May 28th, Indie88 Toronto is undertaking an initiative to honour the memory of long-time radio personality Dave “Bookie” Bookman. Dave was as passionate a music fan and advocate as they come, always wanting to share the latest – with a soft-spot for the underdog.

From 6am to 6pm May 29th, Indie88 is airing an all-day broadcast “A Day to Make Music Count”, seeking donations in Bookie’s memory to MusiCounts. Click here if you would like to make a donation. The broadcast will be anchored by the Josie Dye show, with support from Indie88 hosts Brent Albrecht and Sarah Burke.

Indie88 is matching listener donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000. Our goal is $10,000 in listener donations, with our matching total bringing it to $20,000.

You can listen live to the broadcast in Toronto at 88.1 FM or anywhere at indie88.com.
