Country Star Tim Hicks Performs For Students At Band Aid Celebration
Yesterday, MusiCounts, in partnership with Republic Live (producers of Boots and Hearts and WayHome festivals), celebrated $10,000 in new musical instruments provided to Orillia Secondary School. Made possible through the generous support of MusiCounts’ Band Aid Program, the donation of the instruments was celebrated by JUNO Award nominee and CCMA Award winner Tim Hicks. Hicks celebrated the announcement by performing his hits “Got a Feeling,” “Young Alive & In Love” and “Slide Over”.
“It was so heartwarming to be in the room and see the smiles on everyone’s faces when it was announced that they had been given $10,000 worth of new instruments,” said Hicks. “I know the vibe in this school is going to change because of it, and because of that, lives have changed.”
Also recognized at yesterday’s presentation was the ongoing and dedicated support Republic Live has given MusiCounts, Canada’s music education charity associated with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS). To date, over $230,000 has been raised through the partnership to support MusiCounts’ Band Aid Program. Both Allan Reid (President & CEO,CARAS/The JUNO Awards and MusiCounts) and Laura Kennedy (Vice President PR and Marketing, Republic Live) were onsite to address nearly 550 students, teachers and special guests in attendance.
“We’re thrilled that through our partnership with Republic Live over the past five years we’ve been able to provide over $230,000 worth of instruments to school music programs,” said Allan Reid, President & CEO, CARAS/The JUNO Awards & MusiCounts. “It’s great to be celebrating this partnership in the community and see first hand the impact that these instruments have.”
“MusiCounts has been a wonderful long standing partner of Republic Live and we are very pleased to be able to play a role enhancing music programs in schools like Orillia Secondary School,” said Laura Kennedy, Vice President PR and Marketing, Republic Live. “We are very grateful to Tim Hicks for his participation as it’s always so thrilling to see the reactions from the students and teachers at a Band Aid Program Celebration and how they truly connect to the artists across their shared passion for music. Republic Live is proud to be able to support schools locally through our partnership with MusiCounts and are grateful to all the teachers and parents that support and encourage musical education.”
