MusiCan and the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) celebrated a 30,000 MusiCan Band Aid grant to purchase new musical instruments for students of the Model Schools for Inner Cities project.
Universal Music Canada’s recording artists Dala returned today to their high school to celebrate a $10,000 MusiCan Band Aid grant to Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School, where they began their musical collaboration. Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther met in band rehearsal at Mary Ward in Scarborough and they’ve been making music together ever since. Today’s presentation is a terrific example of how Dala, thanks to a contribution from Universal Music Canada, are giving back to the school where it all began. A highlight of today’s celebration was a performance by the school’s 80 member Senior Concert Band as well as Dala collaborating with the Stage Band at Mary Ward to perform ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’.
On behalf of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), Executive Director of MusiCan, Srinka Wallia announced that Bernard Hébert is the recipient of this year’s MusiCan Teacher of the Year Award. Hébert is the music teacher at Polyvalente Nicolas-Gatineau High School in Gatineau, Quebec. The prestigious honour was celebrated today at the high school as Hébert was surrounded by former and current students and local dignitaries.
