Schools nationwide celebrate as MusiCounts announces $600,000 in support of music programs

MusiCounts, Canada’s music education charity associated with CARAS, announced today a new name and an unprecedented $600,000 in grants for the 2008-2009 school year.

MusiCounts, formerly known as MusiCan, is dedicated to ensuring that young Canadians, regardless of socio-economic circumstances and cultural background, have the opportunity to experience the joy of music, explore their talent, build self-esteem and, above all, dream big.

‘Fore’ a good cause

Entertainment One’s second annual charity golf tournament raised a significant amount of money for the organization’s charities of choice, including MusiCan! This year’s tournament, held at Eagle’s Nest Golf Club raised $ 25,000 for MusiCan in support of our music education initiatives. Our grateful thanks to Darren Throop, President, Entertainment One, Jody Sadofsky and the organizers of the tournament for their continued and valuable support.

RBC donates $30,000 to MusiCan to support music education

RBC announced a $30,000 donation to MusiCan to fund the organization’s work to nurture and support music programs for young Canadians across the country. Jim Cuddy, Blue Rodeo co-founder and CARAS Board and MusiCan Committee member, accepted the contribution from Jim Little, chief brand and communications officer, RBC, at Polson Pier in Toronto during the kick off of the RBC Canadian Open Million Dollar ShootOut Media Challenge hosted by Canadian Idol judge Farley Flex.

The Keg Spirit Foundation makes a $100,000 contribution to MusiCan!

In addition to The Keg Steakhouse & Bar’s support of MusiCan as Presenting Sponsor of 2008 Juno Cup, The Keg Spirit Foundation has generously donated $100,000 to MusiCan in support of music education across Canada.Established in 2001 to commemorate The Keg’s 30th anniversary, The Keg Spirit Foundation concentrates on supporting charities that focus on the development of children and youth. To date, The Keg Spirit Foundation has granted more than $3.2 million to over 200 charities across North America.

“We are proud to support MusiCan with this donation,” says Carolyn Torhjelm, Executive Director of The Keg Spirit Foundation. “By extending enhanced music programs to schools that are in need of support, MusiCan is inspiring young Canadians to reach their full potential”.

The Keg Spirit Foundation’s significant contribution will allow MusiCan to ensure that young Canadians across the country, regardless of their cultural background and socio-economic circumstances, have access to a comprehensive music program through their schools. This contribution is a tremendous show of “spirit” by all Keggers, mirroring the mentorship that The Keg Steakhouse & Bar has provided to so many young people over the years.

RBC Foundation continues to support MusiCan!

RBC Foundation will continue its commitment to music education in Canada through MusiCan by generously contributing $ 30,000 over the next 2 years. This contribution will allow us to provide additional musical instrument grants so that young Canadians can benefit from the musical opportunity they may not otherwise have.RBC believes in the power of the arts to enrich our lives and enhance our communities. In 2007, RBC provided over $3.5 million dollars to organizations across Canada that focus on assisting emerging artists and providing access to the arts to remote or underprivileged communities.
