PARTICPANTS IN OTTAWA’S ORKIDSTRA PROGRAM JOIN JUNO AWARD WINNER SERENA RYDER ON STAGE
At the grand opening of Ottawa’s TD Place on Friday, July 3, 2015, MusiCounts and TD Bank Group announced a total of $250,000 in funding through the 2015 MusiCounts TD Community Music Program to provide 19 community-based music programs with access to musical instruments, education and engagement programming for youth, many of them in underserved neighbourhoods. Six-time JUNO Award winning artist Serena Ryder performed to a full house on Friday and is donating $25,000 through a charitable gift towards the MusiCounts TD Community Music Program to help keep music education alive in communities across Canada.
At a special presentation, Chris Stamper (Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing, TD Bank Group) and Allan Reid (President & CEO, CARAS/The JUNO Awards & MusiCounts) also announced that $15,000 in new musical instruments will be provided for Ottawa’s OrKidstra program, one of the 19 organizations benefitting from this program this year. OrKidstra is a local program dedicated to empowering children ages 5-18 in under-served areas of Ottawa through music. As an added bonus to an already exciting day, the students were invited to the grand opening show at TD Place where they performed onstage alongside Ryder.
